Amdal Gudbrandsdalens

The Amdal upholstery fabric from the Norwegian brand Gudbrandsdalens Uldvarefabrik is a lightly felted woollen fabric with a wonderfully soft surface. This upholstery fabric was designed by Per Bjørnsen in 2001 and was updated in 2018 by Ragnhild Nordhagen and Christiane Müller.

The fabric is composed of 70% wool and 30% viscose. The fabric is highly durable, with a Martindale value of 100,000, making it suitable for intensive use. It also has a lightfastness rating of 5–7 and complies with various fire safety standards.

Amdal has been awarded the EU Ecolabel, which guarantees a reduced environmental impact through the reduced use of harmful substances and lower levels of water and air pollution.

Wool has naturally water-repellent properties, making the fabric easy to clean. For maintenance, it is recommended that you vacuum the fabric regularly and have it professionally cleaned. It can be ironed at a moderate temperature, but the fabric is not suitable for washing, bleaching or tumble drying. ​For the correct care instructions: please consult the Gudbrandsdalens website.

Combining aesthetics, durability and environmental friendliness, the Amdal upholstery fabric is an excellent choice for a variety of applications: it suits both modern and retro/vintage-style furniture. It is therefore no surprise that the fabric is used on furniture by brands such as Artifort and Gelderland, amongst others.

Although Gudbrandsdalens is slightly less well known on the Dutch market, the brand is highly regarded worldwide for its production of Hallingdal 65, a furniture fabric sold under the brand name Kvadrat.
