Maharam Outlet
John Maharam, a Russian immigrant, set up a small business called Maharam in New York in 1902, which specialised in importing fabrics.
After the Second World War, his son Joe Maharam transformed the company into a global player in the field of furniture fabric production. Maharam became renowned for its innovative designs, sustainability and collaborations with renowned artists and designers, such as Alexander Girard, Knoll, Eero Saarinen and Paul Smith. This resulted in unique designs and the use of new materials.
All of this has contributed to Maharam fabrics becoming part of the permanent collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMa), and even our own Stedelijk Museum in the Netherlands.
The best-known upholstery fabrics from Maharam include: Merit, Messenger, Point and Stripe (Paul Smith).
Maharam has made a name for itself in Europe through its close collaboration with Kvadrat, which began in 2001 but has since come to an end.
